Sandplay Therapy

Sandplay Therapy

Sand-play Therapy is a Jungian based therapy that can be predominantly non-verbal. It is  very effective for young children or older clients who suffered pre-verbal trauma. It provides distance between the client and the trauma.

In Sand-play therapy, the client is invited to make ‘their world’ using a variety of figurines. They can tell the story of their world during or after. Their story is a metaphor for their trauma story. It is not necessary to question clients about this story; it is important that clients can preserve the integrity of their narrative. Sometimes, what happens afterwards, is that the therapist will invite the client to engage in a conversation or art activity that relates to the theme of the story but maintains a distance.

Sand-play therapy can be blended with EMDR therapy, particularly for children.
